Breaking into other people’s conversation, stopping someone mid-flow, or finishing their sentences for them will make you appear impatient and overbearing, and should be avoided. If it is essential that you break into a conversation – to relay some important news, or alert people to the fact that dinner is served, for example – establish eye contact with the person who is talking, and then say “Please excuse me for interrupting, but …”
