When it's time to say goodbye, some couples choose a grand departure, accompanied by fireworks, sparklers, flares or even a band. Others just have the bride throw her bouquet and drive off to a waving, cheering crowd. 'Going away' arrangements are a matter of personal choice and dependent on budget.

Timing is all-important. The bride and groom do not want to be the last ones standing but, equally, they should not leave too early and miss out on the best party they may ever host. An early departure may also upset those who have come a long way or gone to great trouble to attend the wedding. The couple should agree on their departure time well in advance and organise how it will be announced when the time comes.

If the bride and groom are staying in the same venue as the guests then there may be less of a formal 'going away' moment. Some couples still choose for the bride to throw her bouquet and retreat to the bridal suite before the party's over.
