Once the wedding guest list has been finalised, the wedding invitations can be sent out. The choice of the stationery is important: invitations provide guests with the first indication about the style and feel of the wedding day. The wording on the invitations and styling of guests' names is dictated by traditional wedding etiquette.

Extra information about the day, for example accommodation or transport details, and details of the wedding list are also enclosed with the invitations. There may also be a second set of invitations to organise for reception or evening-only guests.

Guests should reply promptly in the manner indicated by the invitation. This may be by a traditional formal reply, a reply card or even by email.
