The Queen: A Royal Life

As a young child the Queen was blissfully unaware of her royal destiny. The abdication crisis, which led to the coronation of her own father as George VI, catapulted her on to the world stage.

Her father's ill health and untimely death meant that the Queen ascended the throne when she was still a young woman, and young mother, just 25 years old.

With her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, at her side, she grew into maturity as a reigning monarch, juggling her constitutional duties, her dedication to the commonwealth, and her family life.

She has offered a lifetime of service and is greatly admired for her committment, energy and calm good sense.
