Winchester Cathedral, which dates to 1079, was once the heart of a vast diocese stretching from the Thames to the Channel Islands. It is famous for its six magnificent chantry chapels, dating from the mid-14th century to the early 16th century. Its beautiful, tranquil Close is an atmospheric space, lined with half-timbered buildings from the 16th century.

The historic Inner Close at Winchester Cathedral offers a truly memorable Christmas experience, with a German-style Christmas Market and an open air ice rink.

The Alpine Ice Rink Café provides hot soups, casseroles, strudels, mulled wine and hot chocolate.

There can be few more beautiful places to combine the pleasures of ice-skating with some enjoyable Christmas shopping. You might even see some skating choristers!
