On Tour: Debrett's New Season
From Glyndebourne to Glastonbury - A social calendar for the 21st century
03 February, 2013 - 17 February, 2013
St Moritz, Switzerland

Taking place over three consecutive Sundays in February against
the magnificent alpine backdrop of the Saint Engadine, this
historic event dates to 1907.
It is the premier horse-racing championship on snow, attracting
thoroughbreds from all over Europe, who race across the world's
flattest racecourse - the frozen surface of St Moritz Lake.
The event began with two races: trotting with sleds and skijoring.
This is an equestrian event in which horses race without riders on
their back, towing skiers. Flat racing was incorporated in
1911.
Today this prestigious event features a fringe programme of
musical performances and art exhibitions. Visitors will enjoy the
stunning beauty of this major ski resort, situated at 5,624 ft
(1,856 m) above sea level, which hosted the Winter Olympics in 1928
and 1948. With its clear air and bracing weather, it boasts a
'champagne climate'.
