From Glyndebourne to Glastonbury - A social calendar for the 21st century

Twickenham,
London

This titanic annual struggle between the rugby teams of England's two oldest universities, Oxford and Cambridge, dates to 1872, when Oxford hosted the first ever Varsity Match. The match has been held at Twickenham since 1921.
In the 129 times the Varsity match has been played, Cambridge has won 60 times and Oxford 55. There have been 14 draws, the most recent in 2003.
Thousands of rugby fans - many of them Oxbridge graduates - make the annual pilgrimage to south-west London to cheer on their teams. The Varsity match is widely regarded as the pinnacle of amateur and student rugby, and is a great day out for rugby enthusiasts.
Oxford are the current champions, beating Cambridge 28-10 in 2011.
