On Tour: Debrett's New Season
From Glyndebourne to Glastonbury - A social calendar for the 21st century
28 November, 2013 - 01 December, 2013
York

The Gothic spires, cobbled streets and timbered medieval houses of York are a tranquil antidote to frenzied, commercialised high streets. Soak up York's wintry charm while exploring the Christmas Markets, including the ever-popular St Nicholas Fayre.
The annual St Nicholas Fayre Market, at the end of November, offers a selection of stalls across the city, including Parliament Street, St Sampson's Square, Kings Square, Coppergate and the Guildhall.
A medieval market is also re-created at Barley Hall, a historic townhouse in the heart of the city.
This seasonal market is a foodie's mecca, offering local farm produce such as venison and boar. Wander among the stalls displaying arts and crafts, and don't forget to sample some mulled wine, hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts. Buskers and carol singers all contribute to the Christmas atmosphere.
