The Spanish F1 Grand Prix has been hosted by the Circuit de Catalunya in Montmeló since 1991, when it took over from the circuit at Jerez.

Used as a testing ground by the Formula One teams, it offers a challenging combination of varied corners and straights with the added bonus of long daylight hours for maximum track time.

The circuit is actually located in Montmeló, to the north of Barcelona. Wind direction at the circuit can vary dramatically during the day, a significant consideration given the importance of aerodynamics in modern racing cars.

In 2012 Pastor Maldonado held off Fernando Alonso to claim an historic win for Williams.
