On Tour: Debrett's New Season
From Glyndebourne to Glastonbury - A social calendar for the 21st century
19 July, 2013 - 01 September, 2013
Salzburg, Austria

The Salzburg Festival was founded 92 years ago by Hugo von
Hofmannsthal, Max Reinhardt and Richard Strauss. To this day it is
regarded as one of the most important music festivals in the world,
attracting world class musicians, performers and conductors to this
Alpine city.
Today the Salzburg Festival offers a broad umbrella of artistic
offerings, embracing opera, drama and concerts, and ranging from
classical to contemporary music.
The Festival District is conveniently compact, consisting of the
Grosses Festspielhaus, Mozart's House and the
Felsenreitschule, together with Cathedral Square and the
Kollegienkirche, located just 200 metres away.
Salzburg is a World Heritage city, celebrated for its beautiful
Baroque architecture and, of course, its most famous musical son -
Mozart was born there in 1756. Visitors to the Festival will also
enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Salzkammergut, which is a
resort area stretching from Salzburg to the Dachstein mountain
range, a magnificent landscape of lakes, mountains and alpine
pastures.
