On Tour: Debrett's New Season
From Glyndebourne to Glastonbury - A social calendar for the 21st century
04 August, 2013 - 25 August, 2013
Deauville-La Touques Racecourse, Calvados, France

The month-long feast of racing features four classic Group I
races at La Touques Racecourse.
The four Group 1 events - collectively known as the 'Prix de
Deauville' comprise: Prix Maurice de Gheest; Prix Jacques Le Marois
La Fresnay; Prix Morny and, on 26 August, the meeting culminates in
the prestigious Grand Prix de Deauville, a flat horse race open to
thoroughbreds which are three years old or above. It is run over
2,500 metres.
Deauville is a historic racecourse, dating to 1862. It lies in the middle of France's prime horse-breeding country, with 75 stud farms located nearby. In mid-August the renowned yearling sales are held there.
Laid out over 75 hectares, the Deauville course is close to both the town and to the seashore. The resort is an elegant retreat, redolent of the 19th century, with its grand hotels, casinos, a beach hut-lined promenade and elaborate villas. It is also the gateway to the Calvados region of Normandy. Early in the mornings, you may even see racehorses galloping along Deauville's spectacular sandy beaches, which stretch for miles in each direction.
2013 dates are provisional.
