On Tour: Debrett's New Season
From Glyndebourne to Glastonbury - A social calendar for the 21st century
17 April, 2013 - 18 April, 2013
Newmarket Racecourse, Suffolk

The two-day Craven Meeting launches Newmarket's flat-racing season. Its most celebrated events include the Nell Gwyn Stakes, Free Handicap and Craven Stakes.
The Nell Gwyn Stakes, run over 7 furlongs, is keenly scrutinised by racing afficionadoes, eager to spot the new season's rising star.
Newmarket boats a long racing ancestry, dating back to the 12th century. The town plays host to the Jockey Club's headquarters, the National Stud, and is the headquarters of Tattersalls, the famous bloodstock auctioneers. There are believed to be more than 2,500 racehorses in residence in this equine town (the human population is only just 15,000).
