St Moritz Snow Golf
Golf-lovers need not hang up their clubs during the winter months; they can always try their hand at snow golf. Celebrated as golf's coolest tournament, the Snow Golf Championship is held in St Moritz in January. Over 150 professional, amateur and celebrity golfers from over 20 countries attend this glamorous event, now entering its 32nd year.
The tournament is played on a nine-hole golf course at 1800-metres above sea level in a spectacular Alpine setting. The holes are approximately 33 per cent shorter than normal grass holes. The fairways are composed of compacted snow, while the 'whites' are made from frozen snow. Golf balls are fluorescent amber for maximum visibility in the winter landscape.
2012 dates are provisional.
