German Grand Prix
Since 2007 the German Grand Prix has alternated between two venues: the Nürburgring and the Hockenheimring. In 2012 the Formula One Grand Prix will be held at the Hockenheimring.
The Hockenheimring is in Baden-Württemberg, in the Rhine Valley, and is totally flat. The current track dates back to 1965 but in the early 2000s it was much shortened and modified with the long, forest straights section chopped off in favour of more tight corners. Big new grandstands sponsored by Mercedes Benz have given it a seating capacity of 120,000.
In 2012, Fernando Alonso emerged as an early title contender by winning his second race of the season.
