The Crown Equerry is the senior member of the Royal Household in the Royal Mews Department (whose titular head is the Master of the Horse), and is responsible for all The Queen's travelling arrangements.

The Vice-Chamberlain is a political appointment, which is made on the advice of the Prime Minister.  He is a Member of Parliament and serves as a Government Whip.  He submits a daily summary of the proceedings in Parliament to The Queen.

The Captain of the Corps of Gentlemen of Arms and the Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard are also political appointments and are Government Whips in the House of Lords.

The Lords in Waiting are members of the House of Lords. They perform certain ceremonial duties for the Sovereign, such as representing Her Majesty The Queen at the arrival and departure of visiting Heads of State, at memorial services, and on special occasions.

By custom, two Lords in Waiting are non-political and are known as Personal Lords in Waiting (currently Viscount Brookeborough and Viscount Hood). The remaining five or six, who take their turn for duty for a month at a time, are appointed by the Government, being junior Government ministers in the House of Lords.  Their female counterparts are known as Baronesses in Waiting.
