Career: first of new Br fashion designers to modernise the classics of Br clothing using traditional fabrics; postgrad experience mfrg accessories 1969, expanded to produce clothing collections (wholesaled internationally) from own studio 1970-, shops on Wigmore St and Fulham London, in Richmond Surrey and Place de la Madeleine Paris, jt venture with Anglobal Tokyo 1990, currently produces mens and womenswear with 65 retail outlets worldwide incl UK, Japan, France; outfits donated to Costume Museum Bath and Costume Dept V&A engaged in promoting post-war Br modern design and architecture; hon doctorate Univ of Arts London 2010; Royal Designer for Industry 2007
