Career ballet dancer; The Birmingham Royal Ballet (formerly Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet): joined 1980, soloist 1984, princ 1987-2002, asst ballet master 2002-08 (teacher 2000-), ballet master 2008-; sometime teacher: Royal Ballet Sch 1997-, Yorkshire Ballet Assembly 1997-; performed a wide range of princ roles within repertoire (character, demi-character and classical) in ballets by: Ashton, MacMillan, Balanchine, De Valois, Cranko and others; the first dancer to perform all three male roles (Alain, Colas and Widow Simone) in Ashton's La Fille Mal Gardée; has danced numerous seasons at Sadler's Wells, the ROH Covent Garden and The Birmingham Hippodrome and has toured extensively worldwide; has worked with numerous younger choreographers; created role of Will Mossop in Hobson's Choice with choreographer David Bintley (first performance Royal Opera House 1989 and shown on BBC 2 1990); performances incl: Eros in Sylvia (David Bintley), Satan in Job (De Valois Ballet, at Coventry Cathedral), La Fille Mal Gardée and The Two Pigeons (at Teatro Regio Torino), The Prodigal Son (Balanchine), The Prince in The Sleeping Beauty, Carmina Burana and the role of Gabriel Oak in Far From the Madding Crowd (both David Bintley) 1996, Edward in Edward II (David Bintley), Mr O'Reilly in The Prospect Before Us (De Valois), Richard III in Shakespeare Suite (David Bintley), Arthur in Arthur Part I and Part II (David Bintley), Hoofer in Slaughter on 10th Avenue (Balanchine), Kostchei in The Firebird 2006, Lord Capulet in Romeo and Juliet 2006, The Red King in Checkmate (Sadler's Wells Theatre and Nat Theatre Munich), Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker (Sir Peter Wright), Dr Coppelius in Coppélia (Sir Peter Wright), The Merchant in Beauty and the Beast (David Bintley) 2006; recent performances incl: Dr Coppelius in Coppelia (London Coliseum), The Grandfather in The Nutcracker (Sir Peter Wright), Widow Simone in La Fille Mal Gardée (Frederick Ashton, Birmingham Hippodrome and with the Mikhailovsky Ballet in St Petersburg 2014)
