Heart Health

heart.jpgHeart disease is one of the leading causes of death today. It is reported that heart disease touches approximately 17 million people per year worldwide - that's almost one-third of all deaths globally.

Maintaining a strong, healthy cardiovascular system is essential to your overall health and quality of life. Some simple life choices today will help to give you a healthy heart. Here are a few ideas to get you started...

Exercise

Studies show that moderate physical activity can strengthen the heart. Regular exercise - jogging, weight lifting, playing sports - is key to a healthy heart.

If the gym isn't your thing then try walking. Invest in a pedometer and try taking 6,000 to 10,000 steps every day. Make exercise a regular part of your life.

Sleep

Sleep deprivation has been linked to an increased risk of heart problems. Aim for eight hours' a night - sleep is essential for good health.

Eat Well

Obesity is a major risk factor for heart disease. Your heart health alone is reason enough to lose any extra weight you're carrying.

A heart-healthy diet should include protein, healthy fatty acids such as Omega-3s, lots of water and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Don't skip meals and try not to eat anything within a few hours before going to bed.

Supplements

If you're not meeting your daily requirements through food, supplements can help you meet your nutritional requirements.
