Spa Etiquette

spa-etiquette.jpgMost men are naturally anti-spa, seeing it as a more feminine pursuit. Those same men, however, are often sold after trying just one treatment. Follow our top tips for spa and salons to ensure you get it right.

Arrive in good time for your appointment, preferably 15 minutes before.

Use the robes and slippers provided, and always wear underwear or swimming trunks. Make sure that you're clean.

Leave your mobile phone or other electronic gadgets in the changing room. Remove your watch and any jewellery apart from your wedding or signet ring.

Tell your therapist about any allergies, problems or injuries. These can be accommodated or treated.

Relax. You will get greater benefit if your body is loose. The therapist isn't trying to hurt you, so let them do their job. Don't feel the need for small talk during relaxation treatments. Enjoy the peace.

Don't be embarrassed about using the bathroom. It's a fairly normal reaction after a treatment, especially reflexology.

The night before a treatment, avoid excessive amounts of alcohol. You don't want to be hungover and dehydrated. On top of the recommended daily intake of two litres of water, you should drink plenty of water before a treatment - being hydrated is essential to the effectiveness of massage.

Always tip your therapist at least 10 per cent.
