Circuit Training

Commonly undertaken in the gym, circuit training requires participants to perform a series of exercises to achieve a cardiovascular and strength training workout. The work-out incorporates a range of equipment - exercise machines, hand-held weights and hydraulic equipment.

Pros

A fairly traditional technique, which is a good way of achieving general fitness.

What it works: depending on the routine, it can work the majority of major muscle groups. It is also good for cardiovascular ability.

Cons

Circuit training can be an imbalanced way to work out, because certain muscles groups may not be worked while others are overworked.
