Roman Catholic Priest

Men are ordained into the Catholic Church through the sacrament of Holy Orders. Only celibate men are ordinarily confirmed into Holy Orders in the Latin rite. Priests are responsible for the day-to-day running of Catholic parishes.

A Regular (i.e. Member of a Religious Order) or Secular Priest is addressed as 'Father'.

Beginning of letter Dear Father Smith
End of letter Yours sincerely
Envelope The Rev John Smith or The Rev Fr Smith (if a Regular, the initials of his Order should follow his name)
