Upon his appointment as Chairman, he receives a judicial title by which he is always known, both in Office and on retirement.

He has the rank of a Lord of Session, and his wife (or widow) is treated as the wife/widow of a Lord of Session. She is addressed by her husband's Judicial title, preceded by 'Lady' (not 'The Lady').

His children have no courtesy rank or style.
