Male or female, young or not-so-young, chat-up lines are best avoided. Do you really want to be remembered for second-hand conversation?

The best approach is simple. Remember the basics: eye-contact, confidence and a large dose of well-timed (appropriate) humour. The rest of the battle is to keep them interested long enough to get a number (or something more…).

Ask them about themselves. Remember what they tell you. Make them laugh. Be interested and interesting.

Never try to move things along too quickly or jump the gun: "is it hot in here or is it you?"
