Being a Couple

Under the giddy spell of love, nothing else seems to matter. Unfortunately, it does, and neglected friends can come to resent the boyfriend. New couples should be careful not to alienate their friends and family…

Never speak of you both as a single entity ('we think this') or appear entirely hijacked by him ('my boyfriend says that').

If invited out, don't refuse to commit until you have checked with your partner. It is polite to consult your them, but be discreet. Equally, never boycott invitations that don't extend to a plus one.

Never bicker or argue in public. Remember, the louder and longer it goes on, the more foolish you'll look.

Restrain public displays of affection. Public cooing and snogging will alienate others, whereas holding hands and a quick peck are acceptable for most people.

Keep in touch with your own friends and don't always turn up together.

Try to keep some independence. After all, it is unwise to burn all your bridges just incase things don't go to plan…
